Job details

The Governors and Principal are seeking to appoint an inspirational and talented lead teacher to join us and lead the Autism provision at EMC.  This is a Local Authority provision based within our school environment and provides education and structure for students with autism.

The lead teacher supporting the coordination of our ASD Base will be responsible for planning and coordinating the delivery of educational provision to students with autism spectrum disorders with EHCPs, as well as overseeing our 'safe space'.

This is an exciting opportunity, and the successful candidate will be able to work as part of a team to develop the base to meet the needs of the students in our school community. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding classroom teacher with experience in supporting teaching and learning and CPD, within a school setting. They could have worked within an SEN team previously, supporting staff and students with making adaptations to create an inclusive learning space, and will have a keen interest in working as part of an SEN team.

The overall goal is to help children with Autism engage with educational learning and participate in the school community. The successful candidate will work with teaching staff, parents, and students to ensure fluid communication of needs, school experiences and successes. They will help instil life skills by promoting classroom structure, rules, and procedures - supporting students to follow directions, interact with classmates and communicate effectively. In some cases, the teacher may be part of a clinical support team that assesses student progress and performs evaluations. Additionally, they will be involved in the annual review process, referrals and provision mapping for students.

This role is a middle leadership role focused on inclusion and teaching and learning.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record in raising standards
  • Have enthusiasm and a strong commitment to achievement, safeguarding and welfare of all students
  • Have humour, perspective and an ability to bring out the best in others
  • Be experienced with communicating effectively with parents, carers and outside agencies
  • Support the school’s staff in understanding and meeting the needs of students to promote progress and positive outcomes
  • Have experience of or enthusiasm for working with/supporting ASD students
  • Have experience of coordinating provisions and deploying resources
  • Have experience delivering CPD and training linked to SEN needs

If you have enthusiasm, strong subject knowledge and a passion for teaching, this position provides a challenge to make a difference and an opportunity to work collaboratively in a successful team.

Earl Mortimer College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced check and further pre-employment checks will be conducted in accordance with KCSIE. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children. It is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
