Permanent Variable Contract (20-30 Hours per week)

The Governors and Headteacher of this school are seeking to appoint a permanent variable contract for a Teaching Assistant (SEN) Level 2 to become part of our SEND Support Team. This contract is specific to a student and will run in line with the student’s time at our school.
We are looking for a dedicated and professional Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide tailored support for a student with medical needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the student’s well-being, independence, and educational progress, following the guidelines outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP).

Key Responsibilities:
Medical Monitoring:
- Closely observe the student’s health and well-being, noting any changes or concerns throughout the school day.
- Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies, with knowledge of the school’s procedures and emergency contacts.
- Ensure the student stays hydrated and has opportunities for rest as needed, particularly during warmer months.
- Monitor the student’s safety and well-being during physical activities and ensure accidents are recorded and reported to parents and relevant staff.
Learning Support:
- Collaborate with the teaching staff to understand the student’s learning needs and provide individualized support to help them access the curriculum.
- Encourage the student’s independence and self-advocacy in the classroom.
- Offer assistance with personal belongings and equipment, especially where there are risks of falls or injury.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain clear and open communication with the student’s parents, teachers, and other relevant professionals.
- Attend meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of the student’s IHCP and EHCP.
- Document observations, interventions, and progress to ensure consistent support.
Other Tasks:
- Provide support during daily routines such as meal times and transitions.
- Supervise the student during movement around the school, particularly during busy periods or unstructured times of the day.
- Ensure the student’s safety during physical activities and when navigating stairs or uneven ground.
Required Skills and Qualities:
- Sensitivity and Understanding: A compassionate approach to supporting the student’s health and well-being.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective liaison with all stakeholders.
- Patience and Calmness: Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to adjust to changing needs and support requirements.
- Medical Knowledge: Understanding of medical conditions and necessary procedures for safe support.
Training: Prior training in first aid, medication administration, and awareness of specific medical needs (training will be provided if necessary
